Next Steps Idaho Community Outreach-This year’s Next Steps Idaho Community Outreach Event takes place Thursday, November 7th at the College of Southern Idaho from 6:00 to 7:30 PM. This 90-minute informational event is an easy way for students and families to start thinking about their next steps.  All parents and high school students are invited to join admissions experts, financialaid advisors, and representatives from CSI at the Taylor Student Union Building, Room 276.

 

TICKETS:  This event is FREE and open to the public.

DRAWING:  Attendees will be entered to win an IDeal 529 college savings account. The winner will be drawn at the end of the evening.

PARKING:  Free parking.

 

College Scholarship Department-Each college and university has a scholarship department.  Be sure to visit their website to see when the scholarship application deadline is for the school(s) you are interested in.  This department will be able to assist you with any in-house scholarships offered at their school.

 

Other Places to Look for Scholarships-Parent’s employers, student’s employer, church, service organizations, State Department of Education.

  • Reagan Foundation Scholarships - Scholarship opportunities for outstanding student leaders.
  • Goizueta Legacy Scholarship - Provides scholarships for the children of Coca-Cola employees.
  • American Indian Graduate Center & AIGCS - The largest scholarship providers to Native students in the United States, awarding $15 million in scholarships annually and more than $200 million since inception. For almost 50 years, AIGC has funded students pursuing undergraduate, graduate, and professional degrees in any field of study at any accredited institution of choice, working with over 500 tribes in all 50 states.

Coca-Cola Scholars Program-The Coca-Cola Scholars Program scholarship is an achievement-based scholarship awarded to graduating high school seniors. Students are recognized for their capacity to lead and serve, as well as their commitment to making a significant impact on their schools and communities. 150 Coca-Cola Scholars are selected each year to receive this $20,000 scholarship. Apply now! High school seniors may visit Cokeurl.com/Apply2019 to apply to be a Coca-Cola Scholar.  Applicants must be:  current high school student attending a school in the U.S. who will graduate during the 2019-2020 academic school year; U.S. citizens, U.S. Nationals, U.S. Permanent Residents, Refugees, Asylees, Cuban-Haitian Entrants, or Humanitarian Parolees; will receive high school diploma during the current academic year; planning to pursue a degree at an accredited U.S. post-secondary institution.  The application will close Thursday, October 31, 2019 at 5 pm EST.

Burger King Scholarship-There is still time to apply for the Burger King Scholarship 2019 (for the 2020-2021 school year)!  The application period officially runs between October and December, with a December 15, 2019 scholarship deadline. High school students interested in a chance at a BK Scholarship between $1,000 and $50,000 (Burger King employees), should consider submitting their application ASAP. If you plan to start college next year, this may be an excellent opportunity to get some extra cash for your studies.  Applicants must have a gpa over 2.0 and participate in extracurricular activities.

Target Scholarships for African-American and Hispanic Students-

Target Corporation’s Community Leaders Scholarships are designed to support and encourage college-bound students in the Hispanic and African-American communities. These programs are dedicated to helping deserving high school graduates achieve their dreams of a college education.

Target has partnered with the United Negro College Fund to sponsor eight $5000 Target/UNCF Community Leaders Scholarships. These scholarships are available to undergraduate African-American students who are currently enrolled at one of the UNCF member colleges or universities. Applicants must demonstrate the requisite level of financial need, must meet specific academic standards, and must be committed to serving their communities.

In partnership with the Hispanic College Fund, Target offers 50 annual scholarships for students of Hispanic heritage who are majoring in business related studies at an accredited college or university. Eligibility is determined by financial need as well as academic achievement. Award amounts range from $1000 to $5000.

 

STEM Scholarship for Idaho Senior Girls-The Idaho Education Technology Association, through the Women in Technology Group, is pleased to announce the inaugural opportunity for Girls who are college bound to apply for a scholarship. The scholarship will be awarded to an individual high school female senior that is entering into a college program in science, technology, engineering or mathematics.

 

As our students are thinking forward toward their careers, it’s important to consider STEM Careers. Employees in STEM use their knowledge of science, technology, engineering and / or math to learn more and understand how the world works and to solve problems. Learning logic, collaboration, problem solving and creativity provides a foundation for virtually any career. STEM is the art of blending human ideas and digital tools. STEM employees work in so many different areas: writing apps for phones, curing diseases, creating animated movies, working on social media, building robots that explore other planets and so much more.   Information can be found here

 

FRANK KAZMIERCZAK MEMORIAL MIGRANT SCHOLARSHIP- The purpose of this scholarship is to serve as a living tribute to Frank Kazmierczak, a long time migrant educator, by offering an annual award in the amount of $1,000 for post-secondary scholarship assistance to a migrant student who wishes to pursue a career in teaching.  Candidates will be screened by a selection committee on the basis of the following criteria:

  • Child of a migrant worker or a migrant worker (priority will be given to those with mobility in the last 3 years)
  • Career goal is teaching
  • Scholastic achievement
  • Financial need

Berrien Fragos Thorn Arts Scholarship for Migrant Farm Workers-Funded by a bequest from Berrien Fragos Thorn, creative arts scholarships have been initiated in order to foster and encourage creative talents of individuals with a history of migration to obtain work in agriculture.  Eligible applicants must demonstrate an interest in pursuing further development of their talents in one of the following disciplines:

  • Visual-painting, sculpture, photography, etc.
  • Performing-dance, theatre, music, etc.
  • Media-film, video, animation, computer graphics, etc.
  • Literary-poetry, short stories, etc.
  • Crafts-traditional folk arts, furniture, weaving, pottery, etc.

Applicants must be at least 16 years of age and have a history of movement to obtain work in agriculture is REQUIRED.  A letter of recommendation must be included.  To access this scholarship opportunity, go to:  www.migrant.net/migrant/scholarships/thorn.htm.  Application deadlines on November 1st and June 1st.

Boise State University CAMP-This program is funded by the U.S. Department of Education to help migrant or seasonal farm workers and their children go to college.  Financial support as well as counseling, tutoring, and mentoring help first year students succeed.  After the first year, CAMP continues academic and personal support throughout college.  The program helps participants obtain grants, scholarships, and pre-professional jobs and internships to finance the balance of college.  To pick up an application or to find out more information about this program, see Mrs. Draves in the counseling office.  Application deadline is February 15th.

 

 

Idaho Opportunity Scholarship-Application opens October 1, 2019.  Applicants must meet the following criteria:  2.7 or higher GPA, Idaho resident, must graduate from Idaho high school, plan to enroll full-time at any of the following institutions-LCSC, U of I, BSU, ISU, BYU-I, NNU, C of I, CWI, CSI, EITC or NIC.  Application and FAFSA deadline-March 1, 2019.  https://boardofed.idaho.gov/scholarships/idaho-opportunity-scholarship/

 

Idaho Governor’s Cup Scholarship- Idaho Governor’s Cup was established in 1974 by then-Governor Cecil Andrus. Depending on funding, the Idaho Governor’s Cup Scholarship provides approximately 25 awards to Idaho high school seniors planning to attend an Idaho college or university. Funds are awarded to students pursuing academic or career technical education. This is a $3,000 award, renewable up to four years for academic programs and up to three years for career technical programs.

Eligibility:

To qualify for the scholarship, a student must meet all of the following criteria:

  • Be a resident of Idaho
  • Be a graduating senior of an Idaho high school
  • Enroll as a full-time student in an academic or technical program at an Idaho college or university, taking the ACT or SAT if enrolling in an academic program
  • Have a cumulative GPA of 2.8 or above
  • Attend the first semester of college following graduation
  • Write a 500-word personal essay about your goals and interests
  • High consideration for selection will be based on a demonstrated commitment to public service. Documentation of volunteer work, leadership, and public service is required

George Hansen Scholarship at BYU-This award is available to all incoming BYU freshmen who enroll as Geology or Earth and Space Science Education majors.

Criteria:  Must be a graduating high school senior  Must enroll as a geology or earth and space science education major  Must continue in one of these majors according to a progressive program  Must maintain at least a 3.3 grade-point average  Must abide by all BYU standards of conduct

Bengal Bridge 2020 at Idaho State University-Bengal Bridge is a 7-week summer college semester with a bonus: tuition is only $65.00 per credit hour for recently graduated high school seniors. You can earn 6-9 college credits, including general education courses that count toward your degree. Small class sizes, specialized tutoring, and supplemental instruction will help you successfully transition from high school to college.  Bengal Bridge 2020 will be June 15 - July 31, 2020.  Apply before April 15, 2020.  For additional information call the ISU Student Success Center at 208-282-3662.

Chobani Scholars-The Chobani Scholars program is a multi-year scholarship program to support students with family connections to dairy farming and who plan to pursue a career in the dairy farming industry.

Funded by Chobani, this scholarship program provides vital financial support to fuel the next generation of American dairy farmers. This scholarship is the first of its kind at the University of Idaho — a generous scholarship to develop and support future dairy farmers.

Students who have worked on dairy farms or have immediate family members who work on dairy farms, and who intend to pursue a degree in animal and veterinary science, agricultural economics, or agricultural systems management, are eligible for a $20,000 scholarship spread over four years. Priority will be given to students from the Magic Valley, home to Chobani.

Criteria

  • Must be an Idaho resident and an incoming freshman
  • Interested in a career in the dairy production industry
  • Direct experience with dairy farming personally or through immediate family
  • Preference will be given to those from the Magic Valley
  • Preference will be given to those who intend to pursue a degree related to dairy science (animal and veterinary science, agricultural economics or agricultural systems management)
  • Demonstrated academic excellence with preference to students with a minimum GPA of 3.0

Application process

Apply to the University of Idaho by Sunday, Dec. 1.

Submit a short video (five minutes maximum). First consideration will be given to those who submit their video by Sunday, Dec. 1.  Introduce yourself including your name, hometown and the name of the dairy farm where you or your family work.

 Answer these questions:

  • Why do you want a career in dairy farming?
  • How will a degree form the University of Idaho’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences help you succeed?
  • What would receiving this scholarship mean to you and your family?
  • Optional-How has the dairy industry impacted your life?

Videos will be reviewed based on the applicant’s message, not the quality of video production.  Low resolution(cell phone quality) is acceptable and no editing is needed.

Colleges that charge no tuition to attend:

Berea College-Located in Kentucky, Berea College is a Christian, Liberal Arts College.  Berea College only admits academically promising students who have limited economic resources.  There is no tuition; however, students are required to work at least 10 hours per week on campus.  To learn more, go to https://www.berea.edu.
